Ce projet de thèse s'intéresse au phénomène émergent de l’impact investing à vocation environnementale, ainsi qu’à son processus d’institutionnalisation et de structuration en Europe et en France. Le terme d'impact investing ou d'investissement à impact a fait son apparition en 2007 au sein de la fondation Rockefeller. Il repose sur un retour sur investissement financier couplé à la recherche d’un impact social et/ou environnemental clairement mesurable (Agrawal et Hockerts, 2019 ; Barber et al., 2021 ; Cohen, 2020 ; Höchstädter et Scheck, 2015). Bien que le contexte actuel souligne l'importance de l'investissement à impact, les derniers chiffres du secteur rappellent toutefois la réalité encore modeste de l’impact investing qui conserve un statut de niche en Europe (GIIN, 2020 ; Novethic, 2017). La thèse s’organisera autour de trois (3) chapitres rédigés sous forme d’articles, qui ambitionnent d’aborder l’intégralité du processus de l’impact investing tel qu’il est pratiqué aujourd’hui.

This thesis project focuses on the emerging phenomenon of the  impact investing with an environmental vocation, as well as its institutionalization and structuring process in Europe and France. The term impact investing first appeared in 2007 within the Rockefeller Foundation. It is based on a financial return on investment along with the search for a clearly measurable social and/or environmental impact (Agrawal and Hockerts, 2019; Barber et al., 2021; Cohen, 2020; Höchstädter and Scheck, 2015). Although the current context underlines the importance of impact investing, the latest figures from the sector nonetheless highlight the still modest reality of this practice, which keeps a niche status in Europe (GIIN, 2020; Novethic, 2017) .The thesis will be organized around three (3) chapters written in the form of articles aiming to address the entire process of impact investing as it is practiced today.
